Tradition fabric crafts made in the United Kingdom by Marion (Mole)
Marion, also known as Mole of Moo and Mole crafts, has always enjoyed crafts of all sorts, but lately has been very taken with quilting, helped in no small part by a new found interest in fabric fat quarters. Trying out English Paper Piecing for the first time in 2017 with a small quilt, Mole went on to have great fun making cushions, place mats and table runners in this style. Then the Disney fat quarters were discovered and Mole was up and running with the Disney themed quilts. The search for Disney themed fat quarters lead to Disney material by the meter, which opened up the way for some non-patchwork projects, with cushions, aprons and tote bags, among others, keeping Mole very busy during the strange months of 2020 and 2021.
In 2019 Mole had plans to take Moo and Mole Crafts out and about to attend some craft fairs, it being almost 30 years since her first and over ten years since her last. Late 2019 and early 2020 saw the arrival of a new stall, tables and display stands and Mole was readying her wares when the world stopped. After some time one of the moomoles, who had been pushing Mole to embrace the internet for some time, got her to show some of the face coverings she had been making for friends and family on Etsy. It’s was now coming up to Christmas 2020 and Mole had lots of fun searching out, not only Disney material, but Christmas material for face coverings.
Aprons were not easy with the fat quarters, but buying some of the fabrics by the meter lead to some nice designs for kitchen and crafting aprons with the addition on some ribbon for the straps.
Tote Bags have been made in a variety of sizes, with both fat quarter and fabric by the meter, from smaller book or treat bags to a more traditional size bag and some quite large shoulder bags
Cushions were some of Moles first projects with the fat quarters making both 16” and 10” cushions as well as some larger cushions from the fabric by the meter.
For our first trip out, postponed from 2020, we attended the Heritage and Craft Fair at Willesborough Windmill. This was the first time with Moo and Mole Crafts new purple stall and with the wind and rain we had a real workout getting everything set-up and keeping it all dry. Although the sun did poke through now and again the weather kept a lot of people at home, but Moo and Mole had a good time and definitely hope to be attending next year.
September saw Moo and Mole Crafts head out to the Coxheath recreation ground for the World Custard Pie Championships, which had been postponed from earlier in the year. From their purple stall, which was getting its second run out, Moo and Mole had a good view of the arena and saw a marching drum band give a demonstration as well as the main event, with a lot of custard pies being thrown by the 19 teams competing for the World Custard Pie Trophy, which was won by the EF Girls. The day was bright, although not as warm as it would have been back in June, and there was a good attendance. Moo and Mole enjoyed the day and are looking forward to next June.
